Hello hello and happy Saturday! This morning we slept in a bit finally and as soon as we woke up we opened our door and were presented with the most wonderful breakfast on the terrace of the guesthouse. There were tropical fruits such as Papaya, Watermelon, Pineapple and mini bananas, pancakes, toasts and eggs, and Papaya juice and coffee, so good! The view is so beautiful here in Ella, I found our guesthouse via booking.com just the night before we arrived and was amazed by how many great places they have here. The family who runs this place is so nice, mum, dad and their kids, they are so helpful and helped us with directions and offered us a scooter.
After a long breakfast in the sun we took our little scooter and started the adventure of the day, we had three things on our list, the Nine Arches Bridge, little Adams Peak and the waterfall. We ended up doing one thing which was the Nine arch bridge. First we drove around searching for it forever, then we hiked down the hills, got stuck by a beautiful stick/wood house taking photos and then finally we got to the bridge. WOW! I’ve seen photos of it before but was so amazed when I saw it, it’s huge and so beautiful. It’s made entirely out of bricks, stones and cement and you can find it just between the Ella and Demodara stations. Here they call it Ahas Namaye Palama which means Nine skies bridge in Sinhala because when you stand below it you can see the sky through the nine arches. As everywhere we’ve been in this country so far it’s so beautiful, the landscape is amazing and specially here with the tea leaves growing under the bridge and the palm trees growing above.
We were waiting for the train to come to see the magical view of it passing by, and it did, 4 hours later…but it was fun, there were a lot of people, everyone taking photos and running around. We climbed down the tea field to go under the bridge where it was empty. There were so many people sitting on the edge on the middle of the bridge which is absolutely crazy, the bridge is 24 metres high and if you fall you’re very likely dead. Would never! They were running around with their go-pros filming while jumping up and down, it was really scary to watch but also quite entertaining while waiting for the train…hehe. No one got hurt though…except a dog :'( After the train passed by some people found a little dog who had probably gotten stuck under the rails or something, I’m not sure what happened but his bone had come out from its leg and it was bleeding, it was so horrible to see, but they took so good care of the dog and lift it up carefully into a blanket and took it straight to the vet. I hope it’s fine, can’t stop thinking about him/her <3
There are so many street dogs here, everywhere, but they seem very happy. They are all in good condition, seems to get a lot of food, some are even a bit chubby, they are clean and super cute. Want to bring them all with me home!
So that’s what happened today, tomorrow we’ll do the small Adams peak, time for a little hike!
Hope you’re having a good Saturday! Lots of love xx Mikuta + Klemens
