Hello loves and happy Friday! The other day we left Yala national park and the beautiful tents and went down towards Tangalle where we had heard there would be a beautiful surf beach called Hiriketiya. And yes, it is an AMAZING beach! As soon as we stepped foot on it we fell in love and to be honest I haven’t felt this relaxed in so long time, there’s something magic about this place.
We are staying in a cute little guesthouse called Hiriketiya Surf homestay, the first night we had a small little room beside the family’s room, it didn’t have any windows and was pretty dark, we were ok with it but in the afternoon we decided to book another night just because we loved the beach so much, and this time we booked a room with seaview, and WOW, it’s amazing! The walls are open on the side, so you kind of sleep in the open, but with a roof over you, and mosquito net of course. I slept so well there last night and just want to sleep there forever. They are also really nice and makes us coffee every morning, unfortunately we didn’t have breakfast there yet because every morning we woke up at 6am to go surfing. Yes!
The day after we arrived we had booked a surf class, I tried once in South Africa but was really bad, this time I was much better, it went really well the whole day and we couldn’t stop surfing. Klemens has been kite surfing his whole life so for him there was of course not a problem. Today we surfed again in the morning and it was not going as well as yesterday, I am in so much pain in my arms, my ribs, my back…it takes a lot of power to paddle out and to be honest I laid more under the board than above :P I just need to practice more, tomorrow we’re going to Mirissa and will surf some more.
We have only been on the beach for the last three days and didn’t really explore what’s going around, but people come here mainly for the surfing, it’s a good place for beginners because the waves are not that big. The beach has several guesthouses along the beach and some really nice beach restaurants and bars. The beach is only a couple of hundred metres, so really small and gets very intimate and you feel like you’re friends with everyone after some days :)
Tomorrow we’re leaving but we’ll be back! Just love this place!
Have a wonderful weekend! Lots of love xx Mikuta
