Hello loves! Before we started our trip I had seen photos and read about this beautiful and unique hotel in Sri Lanka, right between the jungle and the Indian ocean the newly opened Wild Coast Tented Lodge takes place and we just had to go and visit, and luckily we did! After some days in Ella we drove down towards the Yala national park and kept driving further into the jungle with all the wild animals, we actually got lost on the way and our driver was so scared we were going to crush into some elephants, luckily that didn’t happen and we quickly found our way by asking some guys working nearby. Once we arrived to the Wild Coast Tented Lodge which is the third property of Resplendent Ceylon’s collection, we were welcomed by a cold and fresh drink and they showed us our cocoon and around the area. The first thing they told us was that we shouldn’t walk around alone when it gets dark, we had to call the reception and someone would pick us up and walk with us to the restaurant or bar or wherever we wanted to go. The reason we shouldn’t walk alone was because of the wild animals, as we were right in the middle of the jungle! This was a bit scary but also so interesting and different from any other places we’ve visited before. We were given a torch lamp and a lantern to bring with us whenever it got dark, it was very exciting and thrilling and indeed we saw a lot of different animals on the way or around our cocoon such as water buffalos and Wild boars, unfortunately no Leopards, which was maybe good, I don’t know what I would have done!
The Wild Coast Tented Lodge consists of 28 fabric tents situated around in a shape of the paw of a leopard, which is the most famous animal in the area. The tents are called cocoons and urchins and are all in a natural beige stone colour just like the stone surrounding on the coast. They have three kinds, the cocoon pool suite with a pool, the cocoon suite and family cocoon suites with an additional urchin for the kids, the urchins are the smaller and completely round ones that you can see on the pictures above. The tents are very big and spacious with a huge bed in the middle, chairs to relax, a big working desk and wardrobe. The bathroom is open and takes up half of the tent, the most amazing thing is definitely the beautiful bath tub that stands in the middle and the double sink facility on the side. I dream of having something like this in my own house! There is a shower on one side and the toilet on the other, both with doors for some privacy. Both sides of the tent have big windows with shades, but the windows go all the way from the bottom to the top which gives a beautiful and bright natural light coming in, which makes you see all the beautiful jungle surrounding while relaxing in the tent or bathtub!
The Wild Coast Tented Lodge is designed by British, Dutch and Sri Lankan designers and every little detail was clearly considered during their process, from the stitching on the tent to the cutlery and glasses in their restaurant and bar. The main areas such as the Ten Tuskers bar and their Dining Pavilion where they have a changing menu every day of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had the most amazing curry and egg hoppers for breakfast joint with fresh fruits and other delicious things from their buffet.
Apart from sleeping in the coolest tents, swimming in their pool, having cocktails by the bar or having food in their restaurant you can of course go on safari arranged by them, which is mainly the main reason why people visit. As I mentioned before Leopards are the famous animal in the area and everyone wants to see those beautiful creatures, but you will also stumble up on other animals like elephants, spotted deers, wild boars, water buffalos, different exotic birds, a lot of peacocks, etc etc. We went out early in the morning when the sun rise, first we had coffee in their restaurants and then we went out together with our guide. He was really experienced and told us so many stories and taught us a lot about the animals. It was a great and fun experience!
We are so happy that we got the chance to visit the Wild Coast Tented Lodge, I love different and unique places with beautiful interior and specially when they are filled with excitement just like it was there, surrounded by all the animals, sleeping in a cocoon which is something we don’t do every day to be honest!
Lots of love xx Mikuta + Klemens
In friendly collaboration with Wild Coast Tented Lodge.
